Creating Art Out of Scraps
Our Corporate Social Responsibility team is always exploring new ways to improve our sustainability efforts. Some ideas are big, others small—but together, they all contribute to reducing unnecessary waste and helping protect our planet.
One idea that came up recently was offering up the wood scraps from the guitar factory to employees for art, home, or any projects we can think up.
When this idea was presented, I was just in the midst of trying to figure out what project I could do at our annual elementary school art fair. Every year the school asks parents to host fun art projects for the students. I saw the scrap guitar soundhole cutouts and instantly knew this would be a perfect and fun art project for the kids.
I gathered a stack of soundholes, took them home, sanded them and drilled a hole at the top to create a spring time ornament.
The kids could either paint, use marker, or do decoupage to create their spring time ornament.
The table was filled with kids all day—it was such a fun project! I hope they’ve all proudly hung up their Springtime Ornament (a.k.a. soundhole cutout) and enjoy seeing it every day.
